Audition for the Blue Ridge Consort

Blue Ridge Consort holds auditions by appointment, and occasionally via open announcement. Interested individuals should make contact via email at blueridgeconsort@gmail.com. Audition details are listed below. While a live audition is preferred, a virtual audition procedure is available in the event of need. Individuals interested in a virtual audition should indicate so in their original message of interest.

Audition Procedure

It is the goal of Blue Ridge Consort to present performances of choral music in a diversity of styles from various times and cultures of our world, all to the highest quality capable. Interested auditionees will submit a Performance Résumé listing relevant experience for delivery prior to your scheduled audition date. Following submission of a Performance Résumé, a live audition will be scheduled.

Prepared Piece

Auditionees will perform a piano-accompanied art song or aria of their choice. While an accompanist will be provided, auditionees must provide a clean copy of their repertoire selection prior to their audition date via email – this copy will be provided for the collaborative artist and the audition panel.

Vocal Range and Agility

Auditionees will be asked to demonstrate vocal range, timbre, and agility of the voice. This will be achieved via vocalises led by an auditioner.

Choral Musicianship

Auditionees will be asked to demonstrate ability in pitch matching, melodic interval singing, and melodic arpeggio singing. This will be achieved via vocalises led by an auditioner.

Sight Reading

Auditionees will be asked to demonstrate sight reading ability via two separate exercises.

Non-English Language Demonstration

Auditionees will be asked to read the following texts aloud.

O quam gloriosum est regnum,
in quo cum Christo gaudent omnes Sancti!
Amicti stolis albis,
sequuntur Agnum quocumque ierit. Alleluia.

Es ist ein’ Ros’ entsprungen,
aus einer Wurzel zart,
wie uns die Alten sungen,
von Jesse kam die Art
und hat ein Blümlein bracht
mitten im kalten Winter,
wohl zu der halben Nacht.
